Peligong Sebetan longhouse becomes Covid-19 hotspot with 27 confirmed cases so far

KUCHING, July 30: A Peligong Sebetan longhouse in Saratok has become ground zero of the new Peligong Cluster with 27 confirmed cases.

The State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said of the 27 positive cases detected so far, 23 cases were reported today.


“A total of 163 individuals were screened where 134 tested negative and two more are still waiting their lab test results,” it said in a statement today.

The committee also noted that the involved longhouse is currently undergoing the Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO) while the patients were sent to the Saratok Hospital and Low-risk Treatment and Quarantine Centre (PKRCs) in Betong and Sarikei.

Saratok alone has three other active clusters as of today. They are the Sungai Sebetan Cluster, Ulu Senulau Cluster and Abu Bengan Cluster, with 47, 42 and 143 cumulative cases respectively.

All three clusters did not register any new cases today.

Meanwhile, Sarawak reported eight other new clusters in Serian (4), Tatau (2), Bau (1) and Samarahan (1) for the day.

They were the Kampung Paon Rimu, Melikin, Kerina and Kampung Sungai Duuh Clusters in Serian; Sungai Sangan and Kinda KM 18 Clusters in Tatau; Bunga Rampai Cluster in Bau, and and Tanjung Tuang Cluster in Samarahan, with six categorised as community clusters and two as workplace clusters.

At the same time, three clusters namely the Muara Tabuan, Jalan Renggas Clusters in Kuching and Sungai Gamong in Meradong were announced to have ended today.

Sarawak has a total of 84 active clusters as of today. — DayakDaily
