KUCHING, July 7: Pelawan assemblyman Michael Tiang Ming Tee sponsored Self-Employment Social Security Scheme (SKSPS) contribution payments for 41 self-employed individuals (‘Orang Yang Berkerja Sendiri’ or OBS) in Pelawan constituency.

According to a news report from Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas) today, Tiang, who is also Deputy Minister of Public Health, Housing and Local Government, presented a cheque for RM1,910.60 as the SKSPK payment to Social Security Organisation’s (Perkeso) Sibu manager Tan Phang Chia during a simple ceremony held at Pelawan Service Centre on Wednesday (July 6).

SKSPS was established to provide social security protection for individuals who carry out self-employment activities for the purpose of earning a living under the provisions of the Self-Employment Social Security Act (Act 789).

The scheme covers a one-year period starting from when the contribution is made to provide sufficient time for OBS to prepare their financial plan and commitments before the next contribution is due.

The one-year period is expected to provide sufficient time for OBS to prepare themselves through financial planning with new commitments next year for the next contribution.

The programme offers protection coverage for job hazards including occupational-related diseases and accidents while on the job.

On another note, eligible individuals who have not yet paid contributions under SKSPS are advised to take the opportunity before the assistance ends on Dec 31, 2022. — DayakDaily
