Pedestrian killed while crossing road

A 54-year-old cleaner was killed in a road accident at 7th Mile Jalan Penrissen on Oct 16, 2020.

KUCHING, Oct 17: A female pedestrian died on the spot when she was hit by a lorry while crossing the road at 7 Mile Jalan Penrissen, Kota Sentosa, yesterday.

The victim, 54, who works as a cleaner died at the scene in the 4.30pm incident.

Sarawak Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief Supt Alexson Naga Chabu said initial investigations revealed that the lorry driver was driving on a straight road from Serian towards Kuching when the victim suddenly crossed the road.

“The lorry driver could not brake in time as the victim made a sudden dart across the road. She was hit by the lorry, resulting in severe head injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by Sarawak General Hospital medical officers,” he said in a statement.

Alexson added that the lorry driver was unhurt but the front end of the vehicle was dented.

The case is being investigated under Session 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. -DayakDaily
