Pedestrian dies after being hit by ambulance along Sri Aman-Kuching Road

KUCHING, April 5: A pedestrian succumbed to his injuries after being hit by an ambulance along at Km52, Jalan Sri Aman-Kuching, yesterday.

According to Sarawak Traffic Investigation and Enforcement chief Supt Alexson Naga Chabu, the incident occurred at 10.30pm on April 4, when the victim, identified as Mola  Sidik, 68, was trying to cross the road nearby Rapak Tepus A area.

“The victim suffered severe head injuries and died on the way to Sri Aman hospital,” he said in a press statement today.

He noted the Sri Aman district police headquarters (IPD Sri Aman) Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division was informed of the incident by the ambulance’s driver who filed the report himself.

He said the blood sample of the ambulance’s driver has been taken for chemical test (for alcohol or drugs). Statements were also taken from both the driver and the medical assistant from Pantu Health Clinic who was with the driver in the ambulance.

“The case is being investigated under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987,” he added. –DayakDaily.
