PDP president: Personal statements, actions must not override party leadership

Dato Sri Tiong King Sing

KUCHING, Nov 12: Personal statements and actions are not allowed to override the decision of the party leadership, says Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) president Dato Sri Tiong King Sing.

He explained that if the opinions expressed by party members caused conflicts within the party and affected the dignity of the party, they would be considered defectors to the party and would be subject to disciplinary action.

“PDP upholds collectivism and defends Sarawak’s sovereignty, and all decisions are based on consensus.

“PDP will never allow anyone to bring power or political parties from the Peninsula to Sarawak and disrupt the wellbeing of the people in Sarawak. We will not allow Malayan parties to hoist their flags in Sarawak,” he said in a statement today.

Tiong was commenting on the recent statement by PDP Krian branch chairman Jeffrey Jimbun who openly expressed his support for Krian incumbent Datuk Ali Biju of Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) to defend the State seat.

Tiong said PDP recently considered Jeffrey Jimbun’s image and personal life to be controversial, and decided not to field him as Krian candidate.

This, Tiong said may have caused Jeffrey to have a bit of discontentment and came forth with politic retaliation. The party, he said, will take disciplinary action against him.

“I hope Jeffrey can appreciate the opportunities given by the part, be self-reflective on the whole incident and stop all actions that would hurt the party,” said Tiong who is also Prime Minister’s Special Envoy to China. — DayakDaily
