KUCHING, May 18: Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) president Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing has reminded political leaders of their core responsibility to safeguard the welfare of the people, while stressing the importance of unity within the party to avoid internal conflicts that could undermine effective governance.
According to a report by TVS, Tiong emphasised that as a political leader, every development must be implemented fairly and balanced, regardless of race or region.
“Never forget the purpose of our leadership. If leaders neglect their responsibilities, not only will the country not be peaceful, but the party will also face disharmony.
“Ultimately, the people and party members themselves may reject us,” he said in his speech at the Dudong PDP Branch Pre-Gawai dinner in Sibu last night.
Tiong, who is also the Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture and Dudong State Assemblyman (ADUN), stressed that party leaders within the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) coalition must avoid undermining their colleagues from other component parties.
“Disrespect for comrades can cause division in GPS and this will only weaken the coalition as a whole,” he said. – DayakDaily
