SIBU, Aug 15: Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) and Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB) will continue to engage with grassroot supporters to rally support for their collaboration.
This comes following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the two parties for collaboration in Kuala Lumpur on July 13 this year.
“What is important is that it (collaboration) must be well received at the grassroots. So we cannot rush it (collaboration). Let the ground be aware (of it), that is why we continue to move around to both ‘kawasan’ (areas) so that it (collaboration) is well-received, well-understood and well-accepted and when the time comes, we will definitely go for it,” said PDP deputy president Dato Henry Harry Jinep at a joint press conference here today.
The press conference was to announced the PDP-PSB Grand Unity Night scheduled for Aug 19 at Kingwood Hotel in Sibu.
Henry wants the people and political parties in Sarawak ruling coalition Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) to look at the bigger picture on the PDP-PSB collaboration.
“You look at the bigger picture. We are actually reducing politicking. When PSB is with us, we are friends. To me this will not hurt any other party unless you have different objectives,” he said.
He stressed that the unity between both parties is “good for everyone and GPS component parties” as with unity, they could focus on bringing in more development not only in their areas but throughout the State.
“How other parties look at it, of course it’s not for me to answer but how we look at it, that is exactly how we look at it,” he stressed.
Meanwhile, PSB president Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh said his side would organise more functions for both parties to realise their objective.
The PDP-PSB Grand Unity Night is expected to be attended by 2,000 members from both parties. Joining them will be PDP president Dato Sri Tiong King Sing who is also the federal Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture, and Bintulu MP. — DayakDaily
