KUCHING, Sept 4: A retired secondary school teacher, Philip Kelanang Duing, has been picked as the potential candidate for Kakus under Parti Bumi Kenyalang (PBK) in the coming 12th Sarawak Election.

Party president Voon Lee Shan revealed that Philip, who graduated from University Southern Queensland with a bachelor’s degree in business, was trained as a teacher at Batu Lintang Teaching College Kuching in 1973 to 1974.

He started teaching at Bintulu government secondary school in January 1975 and was transferred to SMK Balai Ringin in January 1981.

After attending a year intensive course in Agricultural Science in Temenggong Ibrahim Teaching College in Johor in 1983, Philip was transferred to SMK Dato Permaisuri.

He has held several administrative posts in schools including as senior assistant since 1994 until his retirement in 2013.

After retirement, Philip had worked with a fertiliser company as a sales executive and travelled intensively to meet farmers and guide them the correct usage or fertiliser and chemical.

He was active in socio-cultural activities and was elected as deputy chairman of Sarawak Dayak Iban Association (SADIA) Kuching Branch from 2001 to 2004.
