PBDSB to honour the late Bill Kayong if it wins Senadin in state polls

Adman Jabang

KUCHING, June 21: Parti Bansa Dayak Sarawak Baru (PBDSB) has pledged to build a monument in Senadin, Miri, to remember the bravery and sacrifices of the late Bill Kayong @ Mohd Hasbie Abdullah if it wins the Senadin seat in the next state election, which must be called by 2021.

Its vice president cum Miri branch chairman, Adman Jabang, opined that the late native customary rights (NCR) land defender would be remembered forever despite his death three years ago.

“Although it has been three years, it (his murder) is still a nightmare for most of us, especially for those who knew him well and were close to him (Bill),” he said in a statement today.

He added that although hired assassin Mohd Fitri Pauz has been sentenced to death by hanging, the real culprit who ordered the killing had not been brought to justice.

“We suggest that the authorities continue to pursue this case so that real justice can be brought forth to Bill’s family and also to the Dayaks of Sarawak,” he said.

Adman lamented that NCR land issues were still widespread to this day and that Bill’s murder was yet another proof that native landowners remained threatened.

“Bill Kayong shall forever be known to the Dayak community as a brave NCR land defender who was killed while fighting for the rights of the Dayak people.

“For all his contributions, PBDSB hopes the authorities will look after his family’s well-being,” Adman suggested. — DayakDaily
