SIBU, Oct 1: Three local based Opposition parties today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) pledging that they will not clash with each other for seats in the upcoming 15th General Election (GE15).

At the ceremony, Parti Bansa Dayak Sarawak Baru (PBDS Baru) was represented by its president Bobby William, while Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB) by president Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh and Parti Bumi Kenyalang (PBK) by president Voon Lee Shan.

“Our intention of this collaboration is to see that there is no clash between the parties. This collaboration is a historic start for the local opposition party with the intention to capture the next Sarawak government,” said Voon.

According to him, what they have done will enable them to lay a very strong foundation to dismantle the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS), especially Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) and Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP).

If they win in the election, Voon pledged that they will fight for Sarawak rights and restore everything that had been eroded back to the State.

“So I can see that there is a possibility that the next GE will be very strong. For this Parliament, our three parties will try to fill in all the 31 seats,” he added.

For PBDS Baru, Bobby said they are eyeing to contest in four seats namely Julau, Baram, Kapit and Sibuti using its own logo.

“As for me, I will contest in Sibuti. For PSB and PBK, we leave it to them to decide on the logo,” he explained.

Meanwhile, Wong hailed the MoU signing as historic and reflected the importance for local parties to collaborate and work together after having learnt lessons from the past State Election.

“Take Sibu for example. If PBK and PSB collaborated together in the last State election, we would have won all the seats in Sibu of Palawan and Bukit Assek,” he said.

The veteran politician emphasised that the three parties have joined forces to pull their resources together so that they can face GPS and Peninsula-based parties in GE15. — DayakDaily
