BELAGA, Dec 17: An organisation, including a political party, cannot have two leaders as this would lead to divisions, a challenge often observed in weaker areas, whether at the branch or sub-branch level.
In a news report by Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas), Minister of Food Industry, Commodity, and Regional Development Dato Sri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom stressed the importance of leadership selection in preventing divisions within a political party.
“If we look at our weaker areas, the issue lies in leadership, whether at the branch or sub-branch level.
“In villages or longhouses that are progressive, their leadership is capable. In contrast, those that are disorganised often face leadership problems in management and other areas,” he said during the opening ceremony of the Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Sarawak N.65 Belaga branch delegates meeting at the Belaga Community Hall on Monday (Dec 16).
Dr Rundi, who is PBB vice president, emphasised that PBB must remain vigilant to uphold solidarity with its partners in the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) coalition.
He highlighted the importance of balancing differing viewpoints within the party.
“As a large party, PBB cannot adopt every opinion and idea fully. However, when the majority agrees that an idea is beneficial, we must comply and follow to ensure the party remains united. This advice applies not only to PBB but also to other component parties within GPS,” he said.
Meanwhile, the election for the Belaga branch chief position is set to take place, with the selection process expected to proceed amicably in the spirit of PBB’s unity.
