KUCHING, Oct 25: PBB is a law-abiding party.

Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg said Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) strictly complies with standard operating procedures (SOPs) when organising its special conventions despite the inconveniences caused by the nature of the novel coronavirus.

“We are here today and about three years ago we also had the PBB convention at the same place.

“But this time we have to divide into four (sessions) because of Covid-19, the new norm,” he said when officiating at the PBB Southern Zone Convention at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) here today.

Today’s event marks PBB’s fourth such convention in 2020, with earlier sessions held in Miri on Sep 4, Betong on Sep 26 and Sibu on Oct 3.

Abang Johari also revealed all convention delegates wore face masks, making it sometimes difficult to recognise the faces behind the masks.

Social distancing is practised as well, to minimise the transmission of the Covid-19 virus, added.

Meanwhile, he expressed thanks to PBB deputy president Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas who is also State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) chairman, and who has been leading efforts to fighting hard against Covid-19.

“Although there has been an increase in the figures lately, most of them were imported cases.

“We (Sarawak) have a very wide border and it’s hard to control.

“(An) imported virus is hard to control because it cannot be seen with our eyes, but let us PBB fight it anyway,” said Abang Johari. — DayakDaily
