KUCHING, Jan 29: Paving work for the RM19.1 million 8km road project in Hulu Undop Paku junction in Batu Lintang, Sri Aman, has been completed.

According to Private Secretary to Deputy Minister of Education, Innovation and Talent Development Datuk Francis Harden Hollis, Jilin Itar, in a statement today, the focus for work is currently on constructing concrete ditches along the road.

He also suggested that the party involved conduct a work visit to confirm that the project is being implemented accordingly.

He was responding to the Human Rights Commission of Malaysia’s (Suhakam) letter dated Jan 11 following a complaint from residents in the Batu Lintang area claiming that the road project was delayed, still covered in rock and red soil, which poses a danger to road users.

The drainage is currently being constructed along a road project at Hulu Undop Paku junction in Batu Lintang, Sri Aman.

On the same note, Jilin said the project is funded by the Ministry of Rural and Regional Development (KKDW), starting from Kenyungan junction until SK Paku, Undop, and implemented by the Public Works Department (JKR) Sarawak.

He also said that undertaken by Welfield Service Sdn Bhd, the contractor was given 18 months to complete the project, from Jan 13, 2022, until July 12, 2023.

“However, it was delayed due to several factors, such as changes in design and weather conditions.

“Applications for extension of time (EOT) amounting to 219 days have been approved, and the new project completion date after EOT approval is Feb 23,” he added. — DayakDaily
