KUCHING, July 5: The RM3 million Pasar Bintangor Iban Methodist Church has been completed and officially declared open on June 30.
Meradong assemblyman Datuk Ding Kuong Hiing said the church is a testimony of the joint efforts between the Sarawak government and the members of the Methodist Church.
As the elected representative for the area, Ding through Minor Rural Project (MRP) and Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) allocations channeled RM1.25 million towards the project while Unit for Other Religions (Unifor) assisted with RM550,000.
“The rest of the funding needed was made up by the contribution of the church members,” Ding told DayakDaily when contacted.
The new church which also comes with meeting rooms, a pastor’s office and a huge parking space, can cater for 350 worshippers at one time.
Following the official opening of the church, Ding will allocate an additional RM30,000 from his MRP allocation for further development of facilities and amenities within the church building. — DayakDaily
