Pasai Cluster yields another 11 new cases

KUCHING, Feb 17: Covid-19 cases from the Pasai Cluster continued to surface and the situation is yet to abate.

It has infected multiple generations and today there were 11 cases reported from the cluster with seven cases in Dalat, three in Lundu and one in Beluru.


The deadly and ferocious coronavirus from the Pasai Cluster has infected more than 2,500 individuals.

According to information from the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), a total of 2,596 individuals from the cluster have tested positive.

As of today, 33,500 individuals have been screened whereby 304 individuals are still awaiting laboratory results.

Besides Pasai Cluster, there were 21 active clusters of Covid-19 in Sarawak.

They are the Geronggang Cluster (Sibu), Mas Merah Cluster (Sibu), Univista Cluster (Samarahan), Kampung Sungai Maong Cluster (Kuching), Gelong Cluster (Kapit), Kidurong Dua Cluster (Bintulu), Nanga Lijan Cluster (Julau), Seruas Cluster (Beluru), Sebangkoi Cluster (Sri Aman), Jun Heng Cluster (Bintulu), Bintang Daily Cluster (Meradong), Jalan Pengiran Cluster (Matu), Tabong Cluster (Bau), Indah Riang Cluster (Kuching), Bedayan Cluster (Serian), Rakut Cluster (Miri), Bukit Sekubong Cluster (Sebauh), Jelita Cluster (Miri), Bah Sayap Cluster (Miri), Stutong Cluster (Kuching) and Jan Yong Cluster (Kapit).

The Jan Yong Cluster in Kapit is a new cluster identified by the State Health Department today.

It has infected 15 individuals at a longhouse in Sungai Yong in Kapit with the index case being a 21-year-old woman who was identified through active case detection (ACD) at the Kapit Health Office.

The Kapit district has also witnessed 53 new cases of Covid-19.

Out of the 53 cases, 35 cases were derived from the Gelong Cluster.

The Gelong Cluster was declared yesterday following a symptomatic screening from a 47-year-old individual at the Kapit Health Office.

It is a community cluster which has infected a total of 49 people while 86 individuals have been swabbed and 37 people are awaiting the results of their Covid-19 swab test.

Besides cases from the Gelong Cluster, Kapit also witnessed 14 cases from the Jan Yong Cluster and four cases identified from active contact tracing to Covid-19 positive cases.

There were six active clusters which reported new cases today.

They are Gelong (35), Jan Yong (14), Kampung Sungai Maong (12), Pasai (11), Rakut (6) Univista (1).

Other active clusters did not report new cases. —DayakDaily
