KUCHING, Jan 21: Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) Youth has called for the establishment of a party election committee to oversee preparations and uphold democratic principles as the party reaffirms its commitment to open contests for all top leadership positions, including the presidency.
Ahead of the TDC and the Supreme Council meeting scheduled next week, PRS deputy youth chief Surai Anthony Abell stressed the importance of early planning and strict adherence to the party constitution, emphasising that these measures are vital to ensuring the integrity of the electoral process.
“We welcome the reaffirmation by party president Datuk Joseph Salang Gandum during the launching of the PRS Marudi Division.
“This commitment underscores the strength and integrity of democracy within our party and respects our tradition of open contests for all leadership positions,” he said in a statement todya following the 11th PRS Youth Central Committee Meeting on Sunday (Jan 19).
As a vital pillar of the party, PRS Youth remains committed to the democratic principles that underpin its electoral process.
Surai noted that open and transparent contests not only strengthen internal governance but also bolster public confidence in the party’s leadership and vision for the future.
While embracing this step forward, Surai stressed the importance of maintaining party unity throughout the process.
“We trust our leaders, who are both professional and courageous, to guide the party’s growth and progress.
“To stay relevant, we must collectively uphold transparency, fairness, and unity as we navigate this pivotal moment in our journey,” he added.
Surai expressed confidence that this move will definitely rejuvenate the party’s image as PRS aligns its growth with the dynamic aspirations of other component parties within Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) coalition.
On Jan 6, Salang said that all leadership positions, including the presidency, remain open for contest, highlighting the importance of collective decision-making within the party’s constitutional framework.
He also dismissed speculations about the party’s supposedly diminishing significance, emphasising its resilience and grassroots strength. — DayakDaily
