KUCHING, Sept 25: Sarawakian athlete Andy Lau Sie Hui recorded a time of 5 minutes and 19.82 seconds in the men’s 1,500 meters T12 event, setting a new record in the Para Malaysia Games (Para Sukma) on Monday (Sept 23).
The 30-year-old visually-impaired runner’s impressive performance erased the previous meet record of 5:20.53s set by fellow Sarawakian Ranggong Unggang in 2010 edition.
This also secured him his first gold medal in this year’s Para Sukma, defeating Johor’s Muhamad Fahmi Daniel Roslan to secure the silver (5:21.30s) and compatriot Simon Etam Emang to bag the bronze (6:06.53s).
