KUCHING, Oct 29: Pantai Damai assemblyman Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi presents funds amounting to RM211,000 to 44 non-governmental organisations (NGOs).

Among the recipients were Kampung Buntal Zikir Rama Club, Ho Soon Physical Culture Club, Sibu Water Board Employees’ Union, Sarawak Ex-Police 69 Squad Welfare Association, Sarawak Islamic Tiong Hua Welfare Association and Sarawak Bumiputera Entrepreneurs Chamber.

Dr Abdul Rahman said the role of NGOs is not only limited to assisting their members but also assisting the community development.

“This can be shown during the occurrence of any disaster including when Covid-19 hits the country.

“Most NGOs race to provide aid such as food, clothing and medical necessities to disaster victims as well as frontliners.

“We hope that such noble efforts would be continued to benefit the community as a whole,” he said at a humble presentation ceremony held at Pantai Damai Service Centre today.

His speech text was read by his private secretary Mohd Hasfa Saleh.

Dr Abdul Rahman who is also the Assistant Minister in the Chief Minister’s Department (Kuching North City Commission and Islamic Affairs) and Assistant Minister of Utilities (Water Supply) said the handing over of funds to NGOs will be carried out on an ongoing basis.

“The NGOs in our area help the community a lot in various aspects. That’s why we will always try to help them on an ongoing basis,” he added. — DayakDaily
