KUCHING, Oct 29: Brilliant Miri-born Ian Romeo who is now doing a Mechanical Engineering degree at Imperial College London vows to return to serve Sarawak upon graduation.

Ian, a 21-year-old Iban, had finished his A Levels at the Taylor’s College in Kuala Lumpur with straight As with top results in Physics and Mathematics.

Due to his excellent A Level results at the Taylor’s College and because of his liking and love for engineering and science, Ian was given full scholarship by Sarawak Energy to do mechanical engineering at Imperial College London for four years starting last year.

To political analyst Datuk Peter Minos, if Ian can make it to the top at Taylor’s College, he was confident that Ian will also make it top at Imperial College London.

“Ian will surely excel and will come out top and return with pride to serve Sarawak. With such attitude and with real grit, focus and determination, we can call him a budding ‘genius’ and a rising star in engineering,” said Minos in a statement today.

He said Ian was happy for being accepted by a very prestigious and renowned varsity such as Imperial College London and was grateful to Sarawak Energy for the full scholarship and most satisfied doing his mechanical engineering second year.

For Ian, he was happy with where he is now but his heart is still with Sarawak.

“That (his ending up in Imperial College London) truly suits my aspirations and I promise, upon graduation, to serve Sarawak and Sarawak Energy and contribute to areas of clean energy, sustainable water energy development in my beloved Sarawak,” said Ian. — DayakDaily
