Pandelela Rinong among 17 conferred ‘Dato’ title

KUCHING, Oct 8: National diving queen Pandelela Rinong Pamg will be conferred the Panglima Setia Bintang Sarawak award, which carries the title ‘Dato’ by Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud in conjunction with his 85th birthday celebration today.

Pandelela is among 17 dignitaries who were conferred the same title including Senator Dr Zaiedi Suhaili, Lingga assemblywoman Simoi Peri, Samalaju assemblyman Majang Renggi and Layar assemblyman Gerald Rentap Jabu.

Other notable names who will receive the same titles are Sarawak Deputy Commissioner of Police Mancha Ata and former director of State Health Department Dr Chin Zin Hing.

Meanwhile, 13 Sarawak civil servants are receiving titles of Darjah Jasa Bakti Sarawak which carries the title of ‘Datu’. Among them are Sarawak Fire and Rescue Director Khirudin Drahman @ Hussaini and Sarawak Economic Planning Unit director Associate Professor Dr Muhammad Abdullah Zaidel.

They are among the 1,326 recipients of titles which will be conferred by Tun Taib in the coming conferment of titles ceremony which will take place at 11.30am at the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly (DUN) Complex.

The honours list for this year’s Head of State’s birthday celebration included 16 types of awards which included Datuk Amar Bintang Kenyalang, Panglima Negara Bintang Sarawak, Panglima Gemilang Bintang Kenyalang, Darjah Jasa Bakti Sarawak and Panglima Setia Bintang Sarawak. — DayakDaily
