Pakatan speaks for the people, not for GPS — Chong

Chong Chieng Jen

KUCHING, Sept 4: Sarawak Pakatan Harapan (PH) is only interested in becoming the voice of the people and not the state-ruling Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS).

Its chairman Chong Chieng Jen said it would be contrary to the interest of the people of Sarawak if the coalition have to raise concerns of GPS and its component members.

“Do not equate the self interest of GPS to the general interest of the common Sarawakians. In fact these two are anti-thesis to each other,” he said in a statement.

The Stampin MP believed that GPS, through its former Barisan Nasional (BN) coalition, had taken the people of Sarawak for a ride over the past four decades.

“This is evidence in the fact that Sarawak produces among the richest ruling political leaders but its people, among the poorest in the states in Malaysia,” he alleged.

“GPS continued governing of Sarawak will not be in the interest of common Sarawakians,” he opined.

However, Chong said that Pakatan will continue to provide for the people of Sarawak but not for the self-enrichment of GPS leaders.

He was responding to Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian, who purportedly urged the state Pakatan to raise Sarawak issues with the federal government. — DayakDaily
