Painter accused of drug trafficking requests court for counsel

KUCHING, March 20: A 39-year-old painter who was charged with trafficking methamphetamine requested the court to assign a counsel to him, prompting the High Court to direct a senior assistant registrar to do the necessary.

High Court Judge Ravinthran N. Paramaguru then fixed April 24 for case mention.


Wan Ming Swee was charged with trafficking in 276.9 grams of Methamphetamine at the parking space of Jalan Jamboree, Off Jalan Stakan, at about 12.30am on Jan 15, 2018.

He was charged under Section 39B(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and punishable under Subsection 39B(2) of the same Act, which carries the death sentence upon conviction.
