Padungan shoplot wall collapse: ‘Wait until investigation is complete, don’t speculate’, says MBKS mayor

KUCHING, April 6: Members of the public have been urged not to speculate or spread unverified information or news on the wall collapse incident that happened at Padungan here today.

According to Suara Sarawak, Kuching South City Council (MBKS) mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng instead said to wait until the investigation into the incident has been completed.

“We have called for professionals to carry out an investigation. I hope the public will not make assumptions or speculations about the incident. The safety and welfare of the public are always our priority,” he said when contacted.

He added that the Sarawak Public Works Department (JKR) will also assist in the investigation to evaluate the safety of the building’s structure and provide consultation on what to do next.

Wee said that guidance from Sarawak JKR is vital to come up with solutions—both long- and short-term—as well as to prevent the incident from happening again. — DayakDaily
