KUCHING, July 17: Padungan assemblyman Wong King Wei has submitted a motion to the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) to reprimand Minister of Local Government and Housing Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian for misleading the august House.

Wong also wanted DUN to deduct RM10 from Dr Sim’s ministerial allowance for six consecutive months with immediate effect for this alleged offence.

In addition, Wong contended that Dr Sim should also be referred to the Committee of Privileges for contempt of the august House.

Citing Standing Order 15 of the State Legislative Assembly, Wong alleged that Dr Sim had misled DUN by his facts and figures in his winding-up speech yesterday. He claimed that Dr Sim had reported that as of April 23, 2017, the actual progress of the Petra Jaya Hospital was 46.77 per cent (page 47 Hansard dated May 18, 2017). But on November 15, 2017, Dr Sim reported that as of October 22, 2017, the actual progress of the said hospital was 27.68 per cent (page 50 Hansard dated Nov 15, 2017).

According to a press handout, the two reports were contrary to the actual work progress as the Federal Minister of Health revealed that the actual work progress was 33.77 per cent as of April 2017 and 32.71 per cent as of October 2017. As of press time, efforts to contact Wong for clarification were unsuccessful.

Meanwhile, Wong argued that with the discrepancies of the two figures, Dr Sim ought to have known that what he had told DUN was misleading.

“However, until July 16, 2018, the day of his ministerial reply, despite the minster having possession of the actual figures, the minister failed or refused to rectify the figure he presented before in the august House.

“Therefore, there is deliberate misleading of this august House, which amounted to contempt of this House, pursuant to Standing order 32 (12),” opined Wong.

Wong said he submitted his motion to the DUN deputy secretary today. — DayakDaily
