KUCHING, June 6: Padungan assemblyman Wong King Wei supports the appointment of Latheefa Koya as Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief commissioner and urges her to investigate corrupt practices in Sarawak.
He said Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) leaders should worry less about Latheefa’s political background and instead worry more about whether she would go after the corrupt in the Land of the Hornbills.
“I urge (Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu information chief Datuk) Idris Buang and other GPS leaders (to) worry not about her background but worry if she is not taking any action against Sarawak’s corrupt ‘big fishes’,” he said in a statement today.
Wong said he believed all righteous Sarawakians had been waiting for the Pakatan Harapan (PH) government to act on this matter since it came to power in the May 9 general election in 2018.
“Nothing has happened thus far after one year in power. With the appointment of the new MACC chief, I am having a high expectation of her to act speedily, justly, independently and drastically against those corrupt leaders in Sarawak.
“I have been disappointed with the outgoing MACC chief (Datuk Seri Mohd Shukri Abdull) for not taking any action against corruption in Sarawak, while, on the other hand, Idris Buang feels upset over the change of office,” remarked Wong.
He urged the MACC to act proactively in investigating corrupt practices in Sarawak without fear or favour, regardless of who the leader is and what position the leader is holding. — DayakDaily
