KUCHING, Nov 13: Padungan assemblyman Chong Chieng Jen has urged the Sarawak government to provide an additional 10 per cent top-up to the wages of all civil servants serving in Sarawak, aiming to share the State’s wealth with its people.

According to the Federal Budget 2025, Chong noted that the total salary paid out to Federal government’s civil servants in the country for year 2025 is RM105 billion.

As such, the total salary of Federal civil servant serving in Sarawak would be approximately RM10 billion.

“What I propose is that for all civil servants, not only State civil servants, but Federal agencies, Federal ministries and civil servants including the teachers, nurses and doctors serving in Sarawak, the State government has the ability to top up by 10 per cent of their salary.

“I’ve checked that it will cost roughly RM1 billion (incurred) to the State government to top-up 10 per cent of their salary.

“Instead of spending so much, up to RM21 billion on the alternative funding, to build some roads, I will prefer and suggest that RM1 billion annually be allocated to civil servants serving in Sarawak,” he said when debating on the Supply (2025) Bill, 2024 during the Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUS) sitting today. — DayakDaily
