Padawan police nab two in separate raids for suspected illegal gambling

KUCHING, June 4: Two individuals, aged 25 and 29, were arrested by the police in two separate raids for allegedly selling illegal lottery tickets at convenience stores yesterday.

Padawan district police chief Supt Aidil Bolhassan, who confirmed the arrests, revealed in a statement the first raid was carried out at Mile 10 Bazaar, Jalan Penrissen at about 3pm.

“Upon entering the shop, the suspect, a 25-year-old female from Kpg Baru, Kota Samarahan was arrested after admitting to the police that she was selling lottery tickets without a licence.

“Police also seized a mobile phone and cash amounting to RM80.”

The second raid, he added, was carried out at 3.40pm at a convenience store at Sentosa Parade, Batu 7, Jalan Penrissen.

Police arrested a 29-year-old man from Batu Kawah after the latter claimed he was working as an online gambling service provider. They also seized a mobile phone and cash amounting to RM128.

The cases will be investigated under Section 4A(a) and Section 4(1)(C) of the Common Gambling Houses Act 1953 and Regulation 3 of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases (Measures Within Infected Local Areas) (No. 6) Regulations 2020. — DayakDaily
