KUCHING, July 29: The construction of the ‘Package 3D’ project to supply water from Kota Samarahan to Simunjan and Sebuyau areas, is now at 94.83 per cent completion.
Sarawak Minister of Utility and Telecommunication (MUT) Dato Sri Julaihi Narawi said the RM54.9 million project involves the construction of twin 600mm pipes across Batang Sadong Bridge to Simunjan and Sebuyau (Kampung Sg Ladong up to Sebangan and Sebuyau).
He also said the scope of works include the installation of 355mm HDPE pipe connections in Sebangan and Sebuyau for a distance of 15.3km.
“When fully completed in September 2024, this project will provide treated water supply to Simunjan and subsequently increase the water pressure to Simunjan areas.
“Additionally, the project will upgrade the current pipe distribution system in the Sebangan and Sebuyau areas,” he said in a statement after visiting the project site last Saturday (July 27).
Apart from the Package 3D project, there are other water projects in Samarahan Division that have been completed, namely Package 1D—Kampung Baru Booster Pump Station (RM22.98 million); Package 2A—construction of high level tanks/booster pump stations in Tambirat, Moyan Laut, Semera, Asajaya, Sadong Jaya (RM147 million); Package 3A—installation of water pipe connections and high level tank in Sungai Ladong (RM31.8 million); Package 3B—installation of water pipe connections and high level tank in Sebangan (RM22.8 million); Package 3C—installation of booster pump station and high level tank in Tebelu and high level tank in Sebuyau (RM36.7 million); Package 3E—strengthening the structure of Batang Sadong Bridge which affects the work schedule of installing twin 600mm pipes in Package 3D (RM15 million); and Package 3F—water pipe replacement works in Sungai Ladong/Sebangan/Tebelu/Sebuyau (RM10.1 million).
Julaihi who is the Sebuyau assemblyman further said that the water projects in Samarahan Division is part of the Sarawak Water Grid System implemented by the Sarawak government.
“This project will become part of the Sarawak Water Grid System in the southern zone and then throughout Sarawak as a whole when all water projects are completed,” he added. — DayakDaily
