KUCHING, Aug 7: A dog owner was fined RM2,000 in default to one month’s imprisonment by a Magistrate’s Court for negligently failing to restrain his dog from causing grievous hurt to a neighbour.
George Liu, 48, pleaded guilty to the charge read before Magistrate Mohd Syukri Mokhtar here, today.
He was said to have failed to guard his dog, which attacked a neighbour at their housing area in Jalan Song at around 3.30pm on Sept 29, 2018.
He was charged under Section 289 of the Penal Code, which carries a six months jail sentence, or RM2,000 fine or both.
On the day of the incident, it was understood that the accused was home and had forgotten to shut his gate when he went to collect some stuff. His dog then went into the neighbour’s house and attacked the victim.
Investigating officer Nelson Ensit prosecuted, while the accused was unrepresented by counsel. — DayakDaily
