BAU, Sept 27: More than RM85 million worth of agriculture and industrial projects will be rolled out in Serembu constituency under the Greater Kuching Coordinated Development Agency (GKCDA) to reduce reliance on food imports and drive economic growth.
Leading the initiative is the RM40 million Serembu Food Processing Industrial Park in Paku, which will be dedicated to food-related industries, including processing and packaging for both human and animal consumption.
Serembu assemblyman Miro Simuh revealed that six investors are already lined up, including a feed mill factory that will support Sarawak’s growing livestock sector.
“As we all know, our livestock industry is very large, which means we face a shortage of animal feed, and it is very costly. That is why our chickens and cattle are expensive—because the feed itself is expensive.
“This is why we are bringing in investors to the food processing centre, so that we can provide more options to the livestock industry and supply better quality feed locally,” he said in his speech during the launch of Siniawan Waterfront today.
Another critical project is the RM30 million Integrated Pig Abattoir, which will replace Siniawan’s old slaughterhouse that has since closed.
Serving Kuching and Serian divisions, the new facility will adhere to international biosecurity standards, enabling Sarawak to potentially export pork products overseas.
Meanwhile, a RM15 million Integrated Cattle Farm will be established on 250 acres in Kampung Seromah, with a maximum capacity of 3,000 cows. The farm will use modern breeding methods such as artificial insemination and embryo implantation, with technical collaboration from a Japanese company.
He added that these projects will not only create jobs but also strengthen Sarawak’s food security and economic resilience. – DayakDaily
