KUCHING, Nov 15: Following the allocation of more than RM100,000 to support welfare and women’s safety initiatives in Kapit, its MP, Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi, likewise expressed his support for broadening awareness programmes on violence against women, especially in rural communities.

In a Facebook post, Nanta, who is also the federal Works Minister, said the assistance was channelled in conjunction with the ‘Program Advokasi Kasih Wanita @ Kapit: Wanita Dinamik & Toleransi Sifar Keganasan’ held at Kampung Muhibah in Kapit today.

Nanta thanked federal Minister of Women, Family, and Community Development Dato’ Sri Hajah Nancy Shukri and her ministry team for attending the programme, which he said carried great significance for the people of Kapit.

“I feel fortunate that the government, through this ministry, was willing to travel far into the rural areas to reach out to the community—to listen directly to the needs, challenges, and concerns of women in Kapit. The ministry has always been attentive to the issues faced by women in rural areas,” he said.

He added that the programme not only provides exposure to current issues but also creates awareness so that communities are not left behind and empower women in Kapit.

“Since 2021, more than 20,000 people nationwide have benefited from this advocacy programme, including over 8,000 recipients from Sarawak, with total allocations exceeding RM4 million.

“To the people of Kapit, if you require assistance or wish to make a report related to women’s safety or welfare, you may contact or seek help through the One-Stop Social Support Centre (PSSS Mobile @ KPWKM),” he said. — DayakDaily
