Over 70 pct of 278 new Covid-19 cases in Sarawak reported in Kuching, Miri, Sibu

KUCHING, Feb 17: Over 70 per cent of the 278 new Covid-19 cases confirmed in Sarawak today were reported in Kuching, Miri and Sibu, with no cases classified in the more severe categories.

According to the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee’s (SDMC) latest update on Covid-19 situation in Sarawak, Kuching topped the list with 79 cases followed by Miri with 68 cases and Sibu 61 cases.

The remaining 17 districts that recorded new infections are Kapit (28), Bintulu (12), Sarikei (6), Bukit Mambong (4), Samarahan (3), while Song, Saratok, Julau, Matu and Tatau has two cases each and Kanowit, Meradong, Betong, Simunjan, Subis, Selangau and Kabong has one case each.


The latest figures have pushed the overall State Covid-19 tally to 252,674 cases.

With no Covid-19 fatalities reported, the death toll remains unchanged at 1,621 cases.

Of the new cases, there are 114 classified under Category 1 with no symptoms and 164 under Category 2 with mild symptoms.

Currently, there are two active clusters in Sarawak which did not register an increase in case.

Meanwhile, the police have issued 26 compounds in the past 24 hours for various standard operating procedure (SOP) violations.

A total of 17 compounds were issued in Kuching, eight in Miri and one in Sibu.

A total of 16 compounds were issued for failure to check in premises with MySejahtera, nine for failure to comply with physical distancing and one for not wearing a face mask. — DayakDaily
