MBKS Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng, who officiated the flag-off together with CJA president Alice Wee, KDJA president Ronnie Teo, and HSL MarCom lead Abraham Tiong, expressed joy at seeing members of the media prioritising health and wellness through the run.

“This is the first time journalists are coming together for a run like this, and it is very important.

“As journalists, your weapon is in your hand. You have the power to change the world through your reporting, especially when you highlight the good things happening around us,” he said, while urging media practitioners to maintain a healthy lifestyle for a clear mind and strong body to continue serving the public through quality reporting.

Wee added that regular exercise not only improves physical health, but also enhances mood, brain function and sleep—all of which are vital to sustaining the demands of journalism.

Apart from promoting fitness, the event served as a platform to foster greater engagement between media professionals, sponsors and the public. The festive atmosphere extended over two days of race pack collection with lucky draws, wellness booths and networking opportunities between journalists, families, students and seasoned runners.

The success of the event was made possible with the support of generous sponsors including Petra Energy Bhd, Sarawak Metro Sdn Bhd, DreamMaster Corporation Sdn Bhd, BosarMulu Park Management Sdn Bhd, Health Lane Pharmacy, as well as local leaders Datuk Shankar Ram and Datuk Richard Wee.

Meanwhile, CJA Sarawak president Alice Wee, in her speech, emphasised the broader significance of the event beyond just running.

“Whether you joined the 10km competitive run, the 5km fun run or the 3km family-friendly run, each step you took supports a greater purpose; fostering an active lifestyle and raising awareness for the important contributions of Sarawak’s journalism and media community,” she said. — DayakDaily
