KUCHING, June 2: The Education Ministry (MOE) will soon roll out a book voucher initiative expected to benefit more than 430,000 teachers nationwide, in a major move to support educators and promote a reading culture.

The ministry, in a statement yesterday (June 1), said it is finalising the implementation details for the initiative, which applies to all Education Service Officers (PPP) under its purview.

It also expressed appreciation to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim for announcing the initiative during the closing ceremony of the Kuala Lumpur International Book Fair (PBAKL) 2025.

“The announcement reflects his commitment to promoting a reading culture among the public, including educators,” the statement read, as reported by Bernama.

During his speech at the event, Anwar emphasised the critical role teachers play in nurturing knowledge and inspiring students to read.

He said the extension of the book voucher initiative to educators is part of the government’s broader effort to instil reading habits across all levels of society.

The MOE noted that this initiative supports its ongoing mission to encourage lifelong learning and enhance reading practices among teachers and students alike. — DayakDaily
