KUCHING, July 20: More than 2,300 participants flooded the area around the newly completed Jepak Bridge to take part in the Jepak Bridge Run 2025, an event that made history as a celebration of Sarawak’s iconic infrastructure project connecting Kuala Kemena in Bintulu.

According to a Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas) news report, the event organised by the Sarawak Public Works Department (JKR) not only reflects the government’s commitment to modern infrastructure development but also showcases the spirit of unity and community involvement across diverse races and backgrounds in a harmonious and healthy environment.

Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas emphasised that the overwhelming turnout demonstrated how infrastructure serves not only as physical development, but also as a catalyst for social and economic cohesion.

“This run gives the people a chance to directly appreciate the fruits of the State’s development, and I believe it can serve as an effective medium to unite the rakyat while promoting a healthy lifestyle,” he said when officiating the Jepak Bridge Run 2025 in Bintulu today.

Ukas also reported that participants had the rare opportunity to be among the first to cross the bridge before its official opening, making the event a symbolic highlight of the State’s development agenda.

In the 10KM category, Alif Zaini emerged champion in the men’s division, followed by Zulkarnine Zaidin and Abdul Rahim. For the women’s division, Yunizer Suhaili took first place, followed by Amelia Sulee and Ting Sing Chud.

The lucky draw segment saw Mohd Irfan Japar winning a motorcycle, while Evelyn Ugak took home a mini scooter.

The Jepak Bridge is one of the Sarawak government’s strategic projects aimed at improving traffic flow, enhancing accessibility for local residents, and stimulating economic growth in the Bintulu area.

Also present at the event were State Minister of Food Industry, Commodity, and Regional Development Datuk Seri Stephen Rundi Utom, Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Port Development Dato Majang Renggi, and Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Port Development (Infrastructure) Datuk Aidel Lariwoo, along with other distinguished guests. — DayakDaily
