KUCHING: Over 150 eSports teams are expected to participate in the Hornbill eSports Championship 2020 to be held on April 4 and 5 this year.
The Hornbill eSports Championship 2020 is organized by Sarawak State Economic Development Corporation (SEDC) together with Sarawak Multimedia Authority (SMA).
“I once again would like to take this opportunity to extend our appreciation to Sarawak Multimedia Authority (SMA) which has consented on the strategic collaboration with us in organizing this year’s Hornbill eSports Championship 2020 that is aimed to promote talent development among the eSports community by supporting talented gamers, streamers, casters, marshals, and referees that are of various age groups and backgrounds.
“We can make the coming event as a good avenue to nurture their talents and to achieve international standards whereby their talent as content creators in the digital realm can potentially generate income from their activities,” chairman of SEDC, Tan Sri Datuk Amar Abdul Aziz Husain said during the press conference at Astana Wing, Riverside Majestic Hotel this morning.
Abdul Aziz said Sarawak’s digital content will be nurtured and developed, driving the state’s digital economy to a higher level where the impacts will benefit targeted groups especially the local youths.
“The Sarawak Government through SMA is keen to improve the social wellbeing of Sarawakians – fostering game development, eSports, marketing and sport science,” He added.
A total pool prize of RM24,000 will be divided into four categories namely DOTA 2, FIFA 2020, Mobile Legends (MLBB) and PUBG Online games.
The registration fee for PUBG and DOTA 2 Category is RM100 per team; RM60 per team for Mobile Legend Category and RM30 per person for FIFA individual game category.
