KUCHING, Sept 14: The inaugural Kuching Busking Festival to be held from Sept 15 to 17 will see over 150 buskers taking to the streets around Carpenter Street, Bishopsgate Street, the Main Bazaar, China Street and the Plaza Merdeka areas.
Among the merry-making performers are the Mine Dance Group, made up of over 50 children and adults ranging from the age of three to 50, who will put on an almost flash-mob like sequence of presentations such as traditional and Indian dances, hip hop and K-pop.
The Festival will also feature other buskers showcasing performing arts forms such as the Malay Gendang, Chinese Opera and Sape music.
Other genres include country and western music, folk and contemporary dances.
Orators and poets, meanwhile, will deliver their best acts at the Speakers Corner.
“This is indeed an occasion for us to indulge in savouring the rich cultural mix of which we are so blessed to have,” said the festival’s director, Mike Lim.
Buskers will perform at different times between 6.30 pm to 10pm on Sept 15 to 16 along the streets while the Grand Finale will be held at the Atrium, Plaza Merdeka at 7.30pm on Sept 17.
Managed by the Creative Umbrella Company, the festival is organised by the Sarawak Handicrafts and Souvenirs Association and is supported by the Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts, the Rotary Club of Kuching Unity City and other sponsors. — DayakDaily
