KUCHING, Dec 4: More than 1,000 affordable housing units will be built in Muara Tuang constituency for the B40 group, said Muara Tuang incumbent Dato Sri Idris Buang.

According to a report from the Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas) today, Idris said that he has met with the Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Dr Abang Johari Tun Openg to discuss the matter.

He said the location of the new development has also been identified, which is a 140 acre site not far from Semboyan Camp.

ā€œI have requested for the Sarawak government to build more than 1,000 housing units under the Spektra Permata House (RSP) program in Muara Tuang state constituency to help the low-income group (B40), especially to enable youths to own their own home.

ā€œHowever, this project will take time because in the past, Sarawak had no extra income, but when the State government fought with Petronas, we got the Oil SST (State Sales Tax) surplus of more than RM10 billion, and the proceeds from that income have enabled the chief minister to plan and build Spektra houses and other affordable housing,ā€ he said during the ‘Santuni Belia SABERKAS’ ceremony held in Kampung Muara Tuang Multipurpose Hall on Friday.

Meanwhile, Idris noted that the Sarawak government has also provided deposit assistance worth RM10,000 for houses which cost RM300,000 and below, to enable newly married couples to own their first house.

He explained that the assistance is specifically aimed at young married couples but face financial constraints in terms of making payment for house deposit. ā€” DayakDaily
