`Ops Libas’ nets 39 illegal immigrants at construction sites in Miri

MIRI, Oct 26: Thirty-nine Indonesians, eight of them women, were collared during `Ops Libas’ mounted by Miri General Operation Force (GOF) Battalion 12 personnel and officers of the Immigration Department here on Thursday.

The illegal immigrants were found at two constructions sites — in Permyjaya and Senadin — at about 3pm.


Sixteen of them were detained under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63, 15 were detained under Section 15(1)(c) 1959/63, and the remaining eight under Section 11(7)(a) of the Immigration Regulations.

Forty-two GOF personnel and 12 immigration officers were involved in the operation.

Miri GOF commanding officer Supt Tan Hiap Seng said all the illegal immigrants had been handed over to the Immigration Department for further action. — DayakDaily
