KUCHING, Sept 29: Sarawak police have arrested 133 individuals allegedly involved in online gambling and illegal lottery in 129 successful raids so far for the ongoing special Ops Dadu.
Sarawak Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Dato Mancha Ata said the individuals comprised 85 men and 48 women.
“The confiscated items included cash amounting to RM20,493, one tablet, 126 smartphones, and ten mobile printers,” he said at a press conference at Sarawak Police Contingent Headquarters (IPK) in Jalan Badaruddin today.
Investigation papers have been opened under Section 4b(a) of the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953, which carries a fine of not less than RM10,000 and not more than RM100,000 for each gambling machine confiscated and must also be sentenced to imprisonment for a period no more than five years.
For offence under Section 4a(a) of the same Act, if convicted, an individual would be fined not less than RM20,000 and not more than RM200,000 and imprisonment for a period not exceeding five years.
“PDRM (police) will take strict action against individuals who organise and conduct illegal gambling activities based on existing legal provisions to combat gambling activities in Sarawak.
“People who have any information about gambling activities can channel the information through the Ops Dadu’s WhatsApp hotline at 013-5253052,” he added.
Ops Dadu has commenced since Sept 22 and will continue until Oct 5. — DayakDaily
