KUCHING, July: Pending assemblywoman Violet Yong will begin her six-month internship with the state Ministry of Tourism next Friday (July 26).
The Democratic Action Party (DAP) lawmaker said she would be interning at the Sarawak Tourism Board, Sarawak Conference Bureau, the Sarawak Museum, the Youth and Sports Department, as well as the Sarawak Arts Council among other departments.
“I have been called to attend a meeting this week with the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture permanent secretary, Hii Chang Kee, to discuss the scope and details of the internship,” Yong told reporters here today.
She said that she was honoured to be the first elected representative from the opposition in Sarawak to participate in an internship with the state government.
In the last State Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting last May, Minister of Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports, Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, offered Yong an internship post in his ministry for six months, which she accepted. — DayakDaily
