KUCHING, June 15: The public is not allowed to fly drones over the Niti Daun parade taking place this Saturday (June 17) in conjunction with the State-level Gawai Dayak celebration.
Sarawak Police Commissioner Dato Mohd Azman Ahmad Sapri said only drones owned by TV Sarawak (TVS) will be allowed to take aerial shots of the parade which will be rehearsed tomorrow (June 16) and during the actual parade on Saturday.
“Only TVS drones are allowed to cover from the air when the activities are in progress due to safety reasons.
“The police will not hesitate to block the flight frequency of any drone that has been detected to be without a valid permit,” said Mohd Azman in a press conference here today.
To ensure the smooth organisation of the parade, road closures and diversions will be implemented starting tomorrow (June 16) for the rehearsal from 4pm to 5pm, as well as on the actual day of the parade (June 17) from 10am to 5pm.
Among the affected roads are Bulatan Sri Aman, Jalan Padungan, Jalan Abell, Jalan Petanak, Jalan Bukit Mata, Jalan Wawasan, Lebuh Wayang, Jalan Carpenter, Jalan Old Court House, Jalan Khoo Hun Yeang, Jalan Gambir and Jalan Power.
Members of the public wishing to watch the parade are advised to park in designated areas such as Saujana Building, Plaza Merdeka, Taman Budaya, Medan Pelita Building, Tun Jugah and UTC.
The duration of the road closure will be based on traffic conditions tomorrow and on Saturday.
The Niti Daun parade is expected to take place over a 1.2km-long route and will begin from the Tun Jugah building to Kuching Waterfront.
A total of 89 contingents involving 2,500 participants from various departments, agencies, associations and NGOs will participate in the parade. — DayakDaily
