Online Spartan community workout challenge to test your limits

KUCHIING, July 16: Kuching Fitness Association (KFA) has teamed up with Sarawak Sports Corporation (SSC) to run a series of free community workouts online for the Spartan community to participate in the comfort and safety of their own environment.

The organisers, in a media release today, emphasised that that they have moved the programme online as part their commitment to promote the Spartan Races and health and fitness in Sarawak.

“With the online platform, the reach will be even greater than before because everyone all over Sarawak region can participate in the online Spartan community workout.


“KFA with the support of the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture is supposed to put on two Spartan Races for this year with the first in April and second this coming October.

“However, due to the worldwide Covid-19 pandemic, things were unfortunately put on hold. But we are still committed to put on the Spartan Race as soon as it is safe to do so,” it said.

Among others, the objectives were to sustain Sarawak’s visibility as the Obstacle Course Racing hub in the region, build visitors’ confidence to come to Sarawak through sports tourism and help the state’s tourism industry to make a rebound.

“It is also to continue to grow the Spartan community in Sarawak, promote a strong and healthy Sarawak community and improve the morale in the community during this difficult period.”

The online Spartan Community Workout – Lockdown 2020 will be run over six weeks starting from July 20, with a new challenge released every Sunday midnight.

A six-week challenge to keep the Spartan community in shape.

Week 1 is from July 20-26 followed by Week 2 (July 27-Aug 2), Week 3 (Aug 3-9), Week 4 (Aug 10-16), Week 5 (Aug 17-23) and Week 6 (Aug 24-30).

The first challenge will require participants to accumulate 15-km of running during that week. Participants may choose to run anywhere as long as it is in compliance with health and safety guidelines for running outdoors and at gyms.

Participants will have one week (Monday to Sunday) to complete the challenge and then submit their score via social media posting before a set deadline as well as tagging Sarawak Sports Corporation (@sscsarawak2020 @spartanracemalaysia @spartans_of_sarawak on Instagram and Sarawak Sports Corporation on Facebook) and hashtag  #SSC #SarawakStrong #Spartanrace #spartansofsarawak.

To register, participants simply need to register their details with KFA which link will be provided when the challenges are released.

Minister of Tourism, Art and Culture as well as Youth and Sports Datuk Abdul Rahman Karim Hamzah is expected to officially launch the programme.

Meanwhile, KFA will be offering a weekly lucky draw for participants to win. Those who register for all workouts will be entitled to a Spartan Strong Wedge at the end of the programme.

Participants who complete all challenges will be entitled to a Spartan Strong Wedge.
