Online gambling raid nets 9 in Miri

MIRI, August 12: Nine people were nabbed when police raided an online gambling den in Jalan Temengong Datuk Oyong Lawai, Marina Square Phase 2, on Saturday night.

Those arrested, including a manager and two female workers of the illegal joint, were aged between 22 and 39. One of the female workers is a Thai national.

Miri police chief SAC Lim Meng Seah said, ā€œUpon inspecting the premises, we believe it has been running as an online gambling processing centre.

ā€œThey have all been working here for less than six months, working from 11.30pm to 7am (on the following day).ā€

In all, 18 computers and other electronic devices were seized; however, no money was seized as all transactions were cashless.

Those arrested have been detained at Miri Central Police Station (CPS) to facilitate investigation under the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953. ā€” DayakDaily
