One contractor dead, one injured in incident at Petronas LNG Complex

KUCHING, Sept 2: One contractor was killed and another injured following an incident at the Petronas LNG Complex in Sarawak on Monday (Aug 31).

In a statement yesterday (Sept 1), Petroliam Nasional Bhd (Petronas) subsidiary Malaysia LNG Sdn Bhd (MLNG) confirmed that the incident occurred at about 2pm at the Petronas LNG Complex’s Acid Gas Removal Unit (AGRU) drain containment which was currently under maintenance.

“Both contractors were sent immediately to the hospital where it was confirmed that one of the contractors had passed away while the injured contractor is currently receiving medical treatment.

“Investigation is currently being carried out and all relevant authorities have been informed of the incident,” the statement read.

The operations at the Petronas LNG Complex, the statement added, remained unaffected and further information with regard to the investigation’s outcome will be provided in due course.

“MLNG is deeply saddened by the incident and we would like to extend our heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased,” the statement read. — DayakDaily
