One boy found dead, another still missing in Kidurong waterfall incident

KUCHING, Mar 21: A 12-year-old boy has been found dead, while another remains missing after they were believed to have drowned at a waterfall area in Kidurong, Bintulu, this afternoon.

The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) received an emergency call at 3.22pm regarding two male teenage victims suspected of drowning at Air Terjun Sungai Plan Lot.

In an update at 5.20pm, rescuers confirmed that one victim, identified as Tristan Mariss Marissa Erna, 12, was found about five metres from the riverbank at a depth of nine metres. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Search efforts are ongoing for the second victim, identified as Daren Dakun, 13.

According to initial information from the operations commander, the victims were part of a group of four — two boys and one girl — who had gone swimming at the waterfall around 2pm.

The two victims were last seen at approximately 2.30pm before they were believed to have drowned.

A team of firefighters from Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Kidurong, led by operations commander PB Zackcaus Naning conducted surface water search operations at the location, assisted by four personnel from the Water Rescue Unit (PPDA). — DayakDaily
