Body of fisherman found in Belawai, search continues for second man

KUCHING, June 14: The body of a fisherman, who was reported missing with another fisherman, after their fishing boat capsized at Belawai Beach area was found early Sunday morning.

At press time, the search and rescue (SAR) operation continues to search for the second fisherman, who is still missing.


The incident was reported to the Maritime Rescue Sub Centre (MRSC) Kuching at 2.20 am and the SAR operation was activated at 2.45 am for the search of the two missing fishermen.

“The incident was only discovered by the other fisherman when the two victims failed to return to the jetty on Saturday at 9.30 pm,” First Admiral (Maritime) Robert Teh Geok Chuan said in a statement.

He said Maritime Sarawak will be setting up a base at Belawai Beach to plan and launch the SAR operation.

“We will be assisted by other agencies as well for the search operation,” Robert added.

The body of the fisherman found floating near the location where the boat sank has been identified as Ibrahim Abg Resdi, 52.

He said the search for the missing fisherman is still ongoing and the public can contact 999 or 082432544 if they have any information about the missing victim.-DayakDaily
