KUCHING, Dec 19: Most cases of the Omicron Covid-19 variant reported so far have mild symptoms but the risk remains high for those who have not been vaccinated as well as those with a history of chronic disease.
Therefore, Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) urged the general public to exercise caution to curb the spread of Covid-19 infection.
“Despite the decline in new Covid-19 cases and deaths reported in Sarawak, the public should not be complacent in complying with SOPs (standard operating procedures), especially following the detection of the new Omicron variant in Sarawak,” it said in a statement today.
SDMC also said Covid-19 infections including those involving the Omicron variant can be prevented, as long as Sarawakians remain in compliance with existing SOPs, always wear face masks when in public, and practise social distancing as well as optimal personal hygiene.
It also urged the general public to obtain a third Covid-19 vaccination dose or a booster dose if eligible, as data shows three doses of a Covid-19 vaccine are more effective in preventing Omicron infection, compared with two doses of vaccination.
SDMC also reminded the general public to celebrate Christmas Day and New Year 2022 with immediate family only and always adhere to the set SOPs. — DayakDaily
