Oil palm plantation in Kuala Baram, Miri sparks new cluster with 31 cases

KUCHING, Aug 27: An oil palm plantation in Kuala Baram, Miri has sparked a new workplace cluster dubbed the Ladang 0004 Kuala Baram Cluster with 31 Covid-19 confirmed cases so far.

The State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) in a statement today explained that the plantation has already been placed under the Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO).


“A total of 178 individuals have been screened. Of these, 31 people tested positive for Covid-19 including the index case, one was negative and 146 are still awaiting test results.

“All 31 positive cases were reported today, bringing the total daily infections in Miri to 61,” the Committee said.

All positive cases from the cluster were referred and admitted to Miri Hospital and Miri Low-Risk Treatment Centre (PKRC) for isolation and further treatment.

SDMC also reported three new longhouse clusters dubbed as Jero Gelasah Cluster in Subis, Nanga Bengap Cluster in Lubok Antu and Nanga Dap Cluster in Kanowit.

The longhouse in Subis which had already been placed under EMCO recorded 15 confirmed positive cases so far in which 12 were recorded today.

On the other hand, each longhouse in Lubok Antu and Kanowit districts respectively reported 42 and 29 confirmed cases so far. – DayakDaily
