Odd-job worker discharged, acquitted of causing grievous hurt

KUCHING, May 6: An odd-job worker who was charged with hurting an individual with a parang (machete) was discharged and acquitted by the Sessions Court, here, today without his defence being called.

Judge Jason Juga ruled that the prosecution failed to establish a prima facie case under Section 326 of the Penal Code against 22-year-old accused Ambrose Christy Haron.

According to the charge sheet, Ambrose was alleged to have voluntarily caused grievous hurt to Surian Mohamad Ali with a parang at a Taman Malihah flat on April 29, 2018, at about 3am.

Section 326 of the Penal Code carries imprisonment that may extend to 20 years and shall also be liable to a fine or whipping.
